An envelope (14) is formed by assembling several parallelepiped cells which are filled with stones and covered by a grid. The edges of the cells have loops (5) and they are manoeuvred by a lifting beam. Slings are passed through the loops and attached to the beam. Each sling is held in a gap (24) between two vertical flat bars (20) by a finger (22) which slots through grooves in the flat bars, closing off the gap (24). It is activated by a control bar (23) which allows all the attachment points of the cellular gabion to be dropped simultaneously. In the control bar there are grooves (26) along which a stud (25) can slide. This allows each gap to be closed manually so that the loops (5) can be attached individually without need to move the control bar (23). The envelope (14) is assembled on the ground and transported onto a barge where it is filled with stones and closed. It is then attached to a lifting beam which is attached to the lifting device (15). The envelope can be constructed in smaller sections which are then assembled on the barge. Cameras and lighting can be attached to the gabions.
