A container for a lorry is provided with a base, a front wall, a rear wall, two side walls and a roof. The two side walls each comprise one or several pieces of tarpaulin, means being provided for moving the tarpaulin between an open position and a closed position, as well as means for tensioning each tarpaulin in the closed position. In this way, the container can be loaded and unloaded from both sides, so that loading and unloading can take place quickly and without obstacles. The freight for different destinations can be reached virtually without problems under all conditions. The fact that the tarpaulin is tensioned in the closed position ensures that the container is tightly closed.
