<p>This invention is a watering system (10) for poultry and other animals which includes a watering cup (34) having side walls (36) and an opening defined in a lower base portion (38), a valve body (48) positioned within the watering cup (34) and connected to a water supply manifold (12), coupling and sealing apparatus for fastening the valve body and the watering cup to the manifold in a watertight manner, and a plunger assembly (60) positioned within the valve body (48) for selectively controlling a flow of water from the manifold (12) through and out of the valve body (48). Most importantly, the invention further includes a deflector bell (78) mounted on the plunger assembly (60) for developing and channeling one or more water jets (94) into the watering cup (34) after the valve (42) has been opened by the watering poultry. The water jets (94) are developed and directed into the watering cup (34) by grooves (92) formed in the deflector surface confronting the water flow emerging from the valve body (48). The jets (94) of water have the effect of efficiently agitating the water in the cup (34) and thereby suspending any debris (46) present in the cup (34) for consumption by the watering poultry.</p> |
