Pony-motor drive for rotating large engine during servicing
摘要
A pony-motor drive for rotating a large engine during servicing/repairs employs a reversible electric motor (35) of typically one HP rating whose output shaft is coupled to a bevel gear pair in the box (46) by a dog-clutch (42). The output of the box (46) is coupled by a similar clutch (44) to a reduction gearbox (36) e.g. a worm drive whose axially sliding output shaft (not shown) carries a pinion which engages with the toothed starting ring on the engine flywheel when entered and locked with the starter disconnected. Manual rotation is also available via a cranking key applied to the nut (48) and remote operation employs a portable unit and cable (not shown).
