摘要 A reciprocating cutting instrument (10) includes an outer tube (13) housing an inner reciprocating cutting blade (20), which is engaged to a motor through a transmission and drive mechanism (50). This transmission and drive mechanism (50) convert rotary drive movement of the motor to reciprocating movement of the cutting blade. A cam (80) which is formed by a generally cylindrically shaped cam barrel (89) with a cam channel (85) defined in the outer surface of the barrel, engages the spindle of the motor. A drive ball (86) rides within the channel and is supported within a boss (77) of a linear in-line driver (75), which reciprocates within a bearing (65) housed by a driver cartridge (52). Pressure between the drive ball (86) and the cam channel (85) is maintained by a set screw (87) threaded into the boss (77) in the in-line driver (75). As the motor rotates, the spindle, which is engaged to the cam, rotates the cam barrel, which causes the cam channel to pass underneath the drive ball (86), forcing the drive ball to follow the channel path.
