Rendering an object contg. PCBs safe comprises: (a) removing the PCBs from the object; (b) filling the object into a molten metal oven; (c) heating the object using an O2/fuel burner; and (d) filling other materials into the oven, after the object had been heated, melting and annealing the object and other materials alone or together with the PCB-contg. object at more than 1100 deg C to thermally decompose the PCBs. The step (a) comprises removing only PCBs from the PCB-contg. object, pref. dismantling to iron or copper parts. The oven is a convertor. The iron or copper parts are opt. washed or dried at 500 deg C or higher, or washed and then dried at 500 deg C or higher.
