The rifle range incorporates a number of movable targets (33) and there is a movable roof (2) which may be driven towards the rear of the range to cover and protect the targets. the roof rests on a beam or framework (3) and is driven by a rack-and-pinion arrangement (11,13). The targets (33) may be driven by a rotating shaft (22) in a framework at the back of the range, just in front of the back wall (25). The drive mechanism incorporates a chain (30) attached to a counterweight (35) sliding on a vertical guide rod (38). The other end of the chain is attached to a carriage (32) for the targets, sliding on a vertical tubular guide rod (31).
