[Also in Divisions H1 and H3] In a modification of the microwave harmonic generator of Specification 1,034,645, the arc discharge is located substantially at the centre of a spherical cavity resonator 44 formed by the axially adjustable members 42 and 43, the latter including a window 47 coupling the resonator to the circulat output waveguide 12 and dimensioned to reject harmonics of lower than the desired frequency. The tuning plunger 31 is adjusted for optimum coupling from rectangular input waveguide 11 to resonator 44 via an aperture 30, or may be used as a tunable choke to prevent leakage of the desired harmonic therefrom. The molybdenum electrode sheaths 23 and 41 are movable axially both with their respective electrodes, to accurately centre the arc in the resonator, and with respect to their electrodes, permitting adjustment to minimize the number of radiated harmonics.
