The screw cap has an internally threaded cylindrical side wall (2) and a flat end wall (4) which has a seal (5) on the inside and several keyed entrainment elements (6) on the outer edge for use with a turning tool. A turning tool has a lever like handle and a circular opening with several keyed detent elements for engaging with the entrainment elements on the cap. The opening is rigidly connected to the handle. The entrainment elements may lie at least partially in the preferably rounded transition area between the side and end walls. They can be formed by axially and radially open recesses. The lever like handle of the turning tool can be formed from a metal plate containing the opening as well as a further non-circular opening for removing crown corks.
