Medical endoscopy system

A medical endoscopy system has (a) an illuminating light source (56) and a laser radiation source (24, 26 28) emitting visible illuminating light radiation (58) and laser radiation (41, 42, 44) respectively; (b) a beam guide unit (16) for guiding both types of radiation to a coupled endoscope (18) which can be introduced into a body cavity; and (c) a coupling unit (21) for coupling the radiation into the common beam guide unit (16). Pref. the beam guide unit comprises an optical fibre (16) of zirconium fluoride, chalcogenide, quartz or sapphire and the laser radiation source is a tunable solid state laser, pref. comprising a Cr-doped YAG crystal.
