By means of a visible laser beam (1) a guide line is set out for cutting a slot (2) in a road surface such as concrete, asphalt or similar, also in various construction works. The slot or groove lies parallel to the laser guide line. The laser is aimed at a target (3) at 80 m or greater separation by means of adjustment screws (4) in conjunction with the use of spirit levels, aiming telescopes (6) etc. By use of a guide target (8) on the cutting vehicle (7), the guide like is used to steer the cutting saw (11).
