This invention produces a thin cast piece or a thin sheet of a high quality and high mechanical properties out of molten steel containing a large quantity of scrap iron containing Cu and Sn, characterized in that the thin cast piece or thin sheet contains 0.15-10 wt.% of Cu and 0.03-0.5 wt.% of Sn, a primary dendrite interval in a superficial layer thereof being 5-10 mu m.
