Described is a liquid-fuel-fired vehicle heater (1) with a burner which generates hot combustion gases (8-8a) and with a burner chamber (3) which is physically connected to the burner and which is surrounded by a heat exchanger (6), optionally with a cylindrical baffle plate (5) between the chamber and the heat exchanger, the combustion gases (8-8a) flowing past one side of the heat exchanger while a heat-transfer medium (7) flows past the other side. The heat exchanger (6) is fitted with vanes running in the main direction of flow of the combustion gases and projecting out into the gas stream, the vanes consisting of plates which are essentially U-shaped (11), V-shaped (14) or of a similar shape and the arms (11a, 11b; 14a, 14b) of the plates having perforations (12) designed to induce turbulence. The heater is characterized in that the perforations (12) are in the form of holes.
