The drive mechanism is in the form of a motor which has at least one axle driven by at least one runner wheel (18). At least one runner wheel frictionally engages with a roller (4) and is connectable with the ground treatment machine. The pressure and distance between the driven runner wheel and the roller is adjustable. The drive appliance is a single axle tractor (2). The speed of the ground treatment machine can be adjusted by the gears and fuel regulation of the tractor.
