A system controller (9) checks out the set states of the parts of an image pickup system (1) at the time of picking up images and supplies the data on the set states to a recording reproducing system as image pickup parameters. The parameters are recorded on a video tape (17) together with image pickup data. In addition, the image pickup parameters are also recorded on a removable setup card. Consequently, not only the picture corresponding to the image pickup data, but also the image pickup parameters obtained at the time of picking up the picture can be simultaneously reproduced. Therefore, the past data on the set states of the parts of the system (1) can be easily confirmed and reproduced, so that a picture of the same tone can be taken.
