PURPOSE:To provide the titled mica which has excellent pigment characteristics such as stability, safety and resistance to light, heat and acids, tone such as clarity and chroma and electrically conductive characteristics such as specific resistance and in which appearance color matches well with interference color, by coating the surface of mica with a specified titanium compd. CONSTITUTION:Among commercial available mica having a particle size of 1- 50mu, flat common mica having a small particle size is used. An aq. soln. of Ti salt of an inorg. acid (e.g. titanyl sulfate) is hydrolyzed in the presence of said common mica to precipitate hydrated TiO2 on the surface of the mica particle. The precipitate is reduced with NH3 gas or a mixture thereof with an inert gas (e.g. nitrogen gas) by heating at 500-1,000 deg.C to obtain mica coated with titanium nitride oxide of the formula (wherein X is 0.2-0.6; Y is 0.05-0.6; Z is 0.1-0.9) in the form of a solid soln. in which nitrogen is dissolved in the lower titanium oxide TiO or coated with a titanium compd. contg. said titanium nitride oxide in a thickness of at least 200Angstrom and in a quantity of 0.01-60pts. per 100pts. mica. |
