The title app. was composed of electrode sets (15), (16) crossing each other perpendicularly and having electrodes at constant intervals, liquid crystal (17) inserted between (15), (16), and semiconductor layer (40) evaporated on the (15). The app. has a rectifying charact. in which the resistance of the (40) is greater than that of (17) when reverse biased, and the opposite when forward biased, and allows many display elements to be put into a small space.
