PURPOSE:To obtain a hyperlipemia alleviating drug having excellent alleviating activity against hyperlipemia, comprising dried powder or an extract of earthworm as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:Castings in digestive tube of live earthworm are vomited, dirt attached to the earthworm is washed with water, removed or the above- mentioned operations are carried out in the reverse order. The earthworm is ground in a wet state to give a suspension, which is frozen at -10--60 deg.C. Then freezing and vacuum drying are carried out in a temperature range of -60-80 deg.C at <=10mmHg degree of vacuum for 10-100hr while stepwise raising temperature and the final process of the freezing and vacuum drying is done at 70-80 deg.C for 0.01-0.5mmHg for 5-10hr to give dried powder of earthworm. The suspension or the dried powder in the operation is extracted with an extractant selected from an aqueous solvent, a water-miscible solvent or a water- immiscible organic solvent and the extracting solvent is removed to give an extract. A hyperlipemia alleviating drug contains the dried powder or the extract obtained by the operation. |
