PURPOSE:To highly selectively produce a sulfur compound useful as a raw material for production of medicines, agrochemicals and various kinds of industrial chemicals in a high yield by reacting an unsaturated carboxylic acid having an olefinic double bond with hydrogen sulfide under a specified condition. CONSTITUTION:This sulfur compound of formula II, III, IV, etc., is synthesized by reacting a compound of formula I (R1 and R3 are each H, a 1 to 4C hydrocarbon residue; X is H, CONR3R4 or COOR5; R3 and R4 are each H, a 1 to 4C hydrocarbon residue; R5 is H or a 1 to 8C hydrocarbon residue) with hydrogen sulfide in a solvent composed of water and/or an amide compound (e.g. DMF) inactive to the reactional system and/or an ether compound (e.g. dioxane) and/or a ketone compound (e.g. acetone) in the presence of an anion exchange resin catalyst at 20 to 100 deg.C under atmosphermc pressure to 27atm. The molar ratio of the compound of formula I to hydrogen sulfide is 1:0.4 to 1:6. Thermal deterioration of the catalyst can be inhibited by using the solvent and the durability of the catalyst is improved. The service life of the catalyst can, therefore, be prolonged. |
