PURPOSE:To provide a commercially excellent method for production of a polyarylene sulfide having excellent physical properties such as stability, excellent in productivity and reproducibility. CONSTITUTION:This is a method for producing a polyarylene sulfide by reacting a dihaloaromatic compound with a sulfidation agent in an organic polar solvent. The is carried out by heating a mixture of an organic polar solvent and a dihaloaromatic compound, admixing a hydrated sulfidation agent thereto at a rate equal to that of removal of water from the reaction mixture and controlling the water content in the reactional system within a range of 0.02 to 0.5mol based on 1mol the organic polar solvent. |
