A high performance hollow fiber bioreactor having concentric hollow fiber bundles (22, 23) is disclosed. The central hollow fiber bundle (23) supplies culture medium while the outer hollow fiber bundle (22) supplies oxygen needed for cell culture. Methods for use of the high performance bioreactor include, for example, to expand stem cells ex vivo are described. |
