The thin. frusto-conical perforate screen 39, Fig. 1, lying within basket 30, is secured thereto, at the lower end only, by gripping between the basket wall and a clamping ring 40 having an outwardly flaring upper edge portion 41; the clamping ring is forced downwards by screws 43 which engage flange 29 of hub 26, to which flange the basket wall is also secured. The basket wall has a series of annular grooves 34, Fig. 4, in its surface, leaving ribs 37 which support the screen 39. Alternate ribs each have a series of drain holes 49 (Figs. 1 and 4), preferably uniformly spaced, the holes in one rib being staggered in relation to the holes in the next adjacent perforated ribs. Preferably all the perforated ribs have the same number of holes so that the drainage capacity per unit area is greatest at the lower (feed) end of the basket. Preferably also the upper side 47 of each groove 34, Fig. 4, makes an obtuse angle (e.g. b) with the conical surface, and the lower side 48 makes an acute angle (eg. c) with the conical surface.</p> |
