<p><PICT:1027199/C1/1> To separate shot from spun mineral fibres, a supply 561 of the shot is fed to rotors 12, 14 having combs 16, 18 just overlapping, the rotor 12 being at slow-speed to feed the supply 561 to the high-speed rotor 14 which picks off the shot and hurls the shot and fibres separately away from the supply, the fibres then being separated from the shot as by a current of air. The shot and fibres, as shown, are fed to the bight of a second similar pair of rotors 121, 141 and thence fed by fan blower 48 through a conduit 471 to a conduit 501 having a pivoted baffle 62 which deflects the shot to a shot trap 70, the fibres being drawn round the baffle 62 by a second fan blower 82 and thence to a conduit 84. In Fig. 1 (not shown), the shot falls by gravity direct to a shot trap and the fibres are drawn off through a fan blower at the side of the housing. The shot trap 70 comprises a slow rotor 71 with perforated vanes 72 having sealing tips 74 and leads to a conduit 76 having a damper 78, air being drawn upwardly through the conduit 76 and vanes 72 to draw upwardly any fibres clinging to the shot. The housing 101 is provided with baffles 24, 26 and 241, 261 leading to the rotors and giving additional blower action from the air caused by the high speed rotors 14, 141. The combs of the rotors are wire bristles, but may be bristles of natural or synthetic material such as nylon.</p> |
