The door handle has a flat plate (7) mounted in the shell (1) of the handle and rotating about an approximately median axis (10). The plate is semicircular at one end (8) and rectangular at the other (9). The outline of the handle shell (1) complements the shape of the plate, and in the rest position the plate fits closely inside the top of the handle shell, closing it. The shell is shaped so that it is hollow (16,17) beneath the curved part of the plate. Finger pressure on the curved part of the plate tilts it down into the recess, and the edge of the recess forms a curved finger grip to allow the door to be pulled open. When the finger is removed a spring (13) round the pivot of the plate ensures it returns to the normal position where it is flush with the top of the handle shell.
