The plant consists of a furnace (1) with an inlet and an outlet (4), a gas and ash separating chamber (7), and a post-combustion chamber (5) for burning the gases emerging from the furnace. It also has an ash treatment section with a vertical shaft (8) leading to a cooling tank (9). The shaft (8) has radial air injection nozzles (13,14,15), set at different heights and positioned so that the ash spends at least two seconds in the shaft as it drops from the furnace outlet to the cooling tank. The nozzles are inclined downwards at an angle of about 10 degrees to the horizontal.
