A torque control system includes a computer which calculates the frictional coefficient, from data of the essential screw dimensions, stored in its memory, and enables the optimum torque to be applied to the fastening. An accurate tensile loading of a screw fastening is gained by entering data relating to the screw dimensions into the computer (9) by means of the keypad (17). The final pull-up torque is calculated from the friction of the assembly and a resulting angular motor is applied.
