The invention relates to a device for rendering harmless a thread fibre (28) of a thread to be spun in a centrifugal spinner (1, 20) with changing thread feed pipe (6) and twisting device (5) in which the centrifugal spinner (20) has an additional joining chamber (22, 23) at its upper and/or lower end between the yarn packing region in which spinning is briefly effected during joining and the changing of the thread feed pipe (6) is stopped at top or bottom dead centre until joining is completed and only then is the thread feed pipe (6) changed. The invention also relates to a device and process for avoiding the formation of a thread fibre (28, 37) and/or a break in a thread spun with a centrifugal spinner (1, 20, 40) with a changing thread feed pipe (6, 38) and twisting device (5), in which a catch thread (14, 25) is arranged in the region of the opening (3) of the centrifugal spinner (1, 20, 40) which can be lowered into and raised out of the centrifugal spinner (1, 20, 40) and is secured at the end away from the centrifugal spinner (1, 20, 40) and can project at the forward end (15, 26) into the centrifugal spinner (1, 20, 40). The thread is preferably inserted and lowered into the centrifugal spinner (1, 20, 40) by a grip-pipe (13).
