A universal connection unit (1) comprises sleeve head (4) on which bracket (8) is mounted and against which cassettes (11, 12, 13) rest, the cassettes can be swung out horizontally. The connections, which are required according to the intended purpose, are already established in the works. The cassettes are accommodated in a sleeve-type housing which fits over head 4 and there is room in the housing for optical cables 5 and branching core 28 which exit from the cassettes. The cassettes (11, 12, 13) are of different heights and the joining of individual cores 22 can be made in adapters (24) on the opposite side of the wall of bracket (8) to the cassettes. <IMAGE>
