A disk system for a factory automation controller comprising at least two disk units 4a, 4b is disclosed. The disk units 4a, 4b transfer and receive data to and from an extemal device via a Central Processing Unit (CPU) 21. An alarm and/or a visual indication is given when one of the disk units fails so that it can be replaced. After the faulty disk unit has been replaced data can be copied from the disk unit in operation to the replacement disk unit. Operation of the copy instruction button 6 allows data to be transferred between the disks at anytime for back-up purposes.
