The gasket comprises a plate-shaped gasket body (11) which is arranged on a metal sheet (17) coated on both sides with an elastomer layer (18, 19). The gasket (11) has an opening (12) which is provided with a metallic sealing area (16). The metallic sealing area is formed by the metal sheet (17) of the gasket body (11), which is folded in a U-shaped manner around the marginal portion of the opening (12). The elastomer layer (18) is arranged between sections (17a, 17b) of the metal sheet (17). The folded marginal portion (20) has a smaller thickness than the area (21) with no fold of the gasket body (11). The integral embodiment of the gasket enables a simple manufacturing method.
