The engine has feed pipes for pump elements (16) which are fitted into an intermediate housing (21). The engine's camshaft (17) is born in the crankcase (20). The feed pipes comprise at least one fuel pipe (27) and/or a fuel return pipe (28) and/or an oil pipe (31). The intermediate housing is located as a separate unit above the camshaft. There are tension rods (22) along both sides of the camshaft. Sealing screws (26) in the cylinder-sided areas of the intermediate housing fix the housing to the crankcase. The crankcase contains bearing blocks for the camshaft, with bearing covers (25).
