Carbonate-silicate compounds may not only be used to entirely or partially substitute zeolithes and/or crystalline stratified sodium silicates in washing agents, because of their incrustation inhibiting effect, but also allow improved primary washing power and greying inhibition effect to be obtained when compared with said conventional builder substances. For that purpose, carbonate-silicate compounds are used that contain about 40 to 80 % by weight alkali carbonate, about 10 to 40 % by weight alkali silicate, provided that the alkali carbonate content be always higher than the alkali silicate content, and maximum 25 % by weight water, and that have neither a homogeneous surface nor a uniform grain size spectrum.
