A vehicle anti-lock brake system control unit having a control valve (120, 220) for a housing (154, 238, 338) with a control valve bore (152, 236) therein. The control valve (120, 220) includes a sleeve (124, 222) with a moveable armature (126, 224), and a coil (128, 226) surrounding the sleeve (121, 222) for moving the armature (126, 224) from a normally open valve position to a normally closed valve position. The control valve (120, 220) also includes a valve body (146, 230) having an outer end attached to the sleeve (124, 222) and an inner end seated within the control valve bore (152, 236) of the housing (154, 238). The valve body (146, 230) may have an outer diameter no greater than the outer diameter of the coil (226) such that minimum spacing between multiple control valves (120, 220) in the control unit is not limited by the outer diameter of the valve body (230), and the valve body (230) may further include a separate flux ring (267) received on an annular shoulder (258) of the valve body (230) externally of the housing (238) and alternatively as part of the magnetic coil assembly of an integrated electrical control module (42). A pole piece (144, 248) concentrically located within the valve body (146, 230) defines the flow passage (134) through the valve (120, 220) and may be fixed to the valve body (146, 230) by a swaged joint, thereby eliminating a threaded joint. The control valve (120, 220) may likewise be held to or within the control unit by a non-threaded connection thereby eliminating altogether threaded connections in the control unit. |
