<p>A frozen foodstuff content determining apparatus is provided comprising a heating means and a temperature sensor means combination which is capable of being placed in contact with the surface of an animal or foodstuff the component content of which is to be determined, whereby the increase in temperature of the animal or foodstuff caused by the heating means is measurable by the sensor means such that temperature rise with time may be measured, a signal indicative of temperature of the foodstuff emitted from the sensor means to a signal processing means, wherein the characteristics of the temperature rise are related to the proportion of components and a processor output signal produced which is used to cause a visual indication of a desired component to be given on a display unit connected to the sensor through the processor. Particularly the components measured comprise water, protein and/or fat. The apparatus preferably includes a processing means that is also capable of determining the specific heat capacity, the thermal conductivity and thermal effusivity of the animal or foodstuff from the rate of increase in temperature.</p> |
