A hollow gold club head 10 having a ball striking face having upper and lower edges, a sole plate 14 joined to the lower edge, a crown 12 joined to the upper edge and a walled insert cavity 18 in the ball striking face. The club head may be filled with expandable crystals and the club face is scored, etched or moulded to form horizontal face grooves 26.
