The compartment (15) is closed by flaps (16, 18) hinged at points (9, 19). The two flaps may be folded into the compartment to form a temporary infant's seat when the vehicle is at rest or a foot-rest for a passenger. The flaps may be raised or lowered to accommodate various shapes of article. Space may be left below the compartment for a drawer (40) mounted on runners on the floor (36) of the vehicle. The compartment is connected to the plenum chamber (42) of the heating and air conditioning system, allowing chilling of its contents, whilst the drawer (40) may contain a variety of articles and fittings, e.g. a radio receiver.
