This illumination system converts the low voltage to a higher voltage, without compromising safety precautions. The supply is fed via an isolating transformer (8), earth leakage cut-out (9) and smoothing chokes (11) to the two sodium discharge lamps (14). The components are housed in a rubberised case (1). The case, which is proof against oil, acid and heat, is mounted on a support frame (2). The lamps (14) are mounted on an arm (17). The arm is mounted on a pillar (18) which protrudes from the top of the case.
