The procedure consists of using a supple tube with a coating of vulcanised rubber or of a thermoplastic/elastomer which is inserted inside the pipe to be lined by suction. The lining tube is fixed to one end of the pipe by a ring (10), the pipe is sealed at its other end by a plate (12), and the inside of the pipe is connected to a suction pump (13) which draws the lining tube inside the pipe as the air is evacuated. The lining tube can then be polymerised by thermal treatment, e.g. by hot air, steam or hot water.
