PURPOSE:To improve response, by forming at least a part of a coating layer with the nonstoichimetric compound of transition metal oxide, and supporting a catalyst, by which the component comprising said compound balances the gas component of detected gas. CONSTITUTION:A solid electrolyte body 3 of an oxygen detecting element 1 is formed with stabilized zirconia having oxygen ion conductivity as a raw material in a test tube shape. On the surface of an electrode 6 on the side of detected gas, a first coating layer 8 comprising spinel (Al2O3, MgO) is formed. A second coating layer 10 comprising titania, which supports a Pt catalyst, is formed on the surface thereof. Since a part of the coating layer comprises the nonstoichimetric compound of transition metal compound and the catalyst, by which the gas component of the detected gas is balanced, is supported, balancing of oxidation reaction of the gas component is accelerated, the oxidation reaction is ensured and response is improved. |
