An apparatus for transporting objects on trays 7 at different levels comprises a plurality of horizontal superposed endless conveyers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, one at each level and each conveyer having spaced cup members 1c on each of a pair of parallel endless chains, engaging transverse spindles on the trays 7 to drive the same, a device 31 at one end of each conveyer to transfer each tray between the two runs 11, 21 of the conveyer and a device 41 at the other end to transfer each tray between the low run 21 of one conveyer 1 and the upper run 12 of the adjacent conveyer 2, the trays being maintained horizontal during these transfers. The tranfer devices at both ends of the conveyers operate identically apart from the fact that the devices 31, 32 are mounted on a slidable frame resiliently urged to tension the conveyer. The transfer device 41, Fig. 6, comprises two pairs of wheels 62, 64 rotatably driven in synchronism with the adjacent conveyers 1, 2 by gears 84, 68, 67, 66, 69, 71. During movement along the conveyer runs the spindles 7a of the trays are guided between rails 8, 9. As a tray 7 approaches the transfer device 41 the leading spindles 7a pass the wheels 62 with clearance afforded by the flat 62b thereon and pass over the end of lever 74 pivoted at 75 and outer stationary rails 79. The levers 74 are held in a position for supporting the leading spindles 7a by pins 78 eccentrically fixed to the wheels 64 and engaging the underside of hooked forward ends of the levers 74. With further forward movement of the tray 7 the leading pin engages the outer side of the lever hook causing its remote end to lift whereupon the trailing pins of the tray pass under that end, and the tray spindles engage recesses 62a, 64a in the wheels. The tray is thereby lowered, the spindles being held in the wheel recesses by curved rails 85 and pivoted curved rails 76 until the spindles are engaged by the chains of the lower conveyer. The rail 76 pivots out of the path of the trailing spindle as it then moves with the chain 12. All the transfer mechanisms and conveyers are driven by a common motor. Partitions 10 may be utilized between adjacent levels and conveyers of different lengths may be employed at different levels depending on the treatment time and type. |
