A crimped wool-like yarn is formed by meltspinning together at elevated temperatures a polyamide and a polyamide containing 0À5 to 20% by weight of a segment as composite bifilar threads which are then stretched, and then treated with water at temperatures of between 60‹ and 120‹ C. In the segment R is an alkylene or alkene group, y = 1-3, x = 2-12 and M is H or an alkali metal. The polyamides may be obtained from a dicarboxylic acid and a diamine, or an aminocarboxylic acid or its lactam. The spinning temperature may be 250-300‹ C., and the stretching temperature may be 20-140‹ C. The thread may be formed using a 12-aperture spinneret with apertures of diameter 0-25 mm. The crimp is helical. |
