PURPOSE:To obtain a water purifying material with a good antibacterial property by making the material from zeolite bonded with silver or zirconium phosphate carrying silver or bonded with silver and active carbon. CONSTITUTION:A water purifying material is made from zeolite bonded with silver or zirconium phosphate carrying silver or bonded with silver and active carbon. The silver content of the material is preferably 0.01-3%. The material is manufactured by a method in which a mixture of zeolite bonded with silver or zirconium phosphate carrying silver or bonded with silver and a carbonaceous raw material is crushed and incorporated with a binder and a builder, if necessary, the mixture, after being pelletized or granulated, is oxidized in an atmosphere containing oxygen at 300 deg.C or below, and the product is dry-distilled and carbonized in an inert gas and activated. In this way, a water purifying material is obtained which can control effectively bacteria generated internally in addition to general water purifying functions of removing chlorine and mold odors and others.
