PURPOSE:To embody the shortest piercing and the cutting with high precision in a compatible manner in a laser beam machining equipment to realize the laser beams machining according to the machining program. CONSTITUTION:A program reading means 2 reads the machining program 1. When a first distance switching command means 3 detects the piercing program which is present in the read machining program 1, the command signal is outputted so that the distance between a work surface and a convergence point of the laser beam may be set for the piercing. When a second distance switching command means 4 detects the cutting program which is present in the read machining program 1, the command signal is outputted so that the distance between the work and the convergence point may be set for the cutting. A distance control means 5 is activated according to the command signal from the first and the second distance switching command means 3, 4 to control the distance between the work and the convergence point. The distance between the work and the convergence point can be set to the optimum position for the piercing during the piercing operation, or to the optimum position for the cutting during the cutting operation. |
