PURPOSE:To carry out the mass culture a pathogenic nonacid-fast bacterium in a tank and mass-produce a vaccine against pertussis or diphtheria, etc., by adding a nonionic surfactant to a culture medium and culturing the nonacid- fast bacterium while stirring the culture medium. CONSTITUTION:This method for culturing a pathogenic nonacid-fast bacterium is to add about 0.005-5.0% (wt./vol.), preferably 0.05-2.0 (wt./vol.) nonionic surfactant (a Pluronic<(>R<)>-based surfactant, a sorbitan-based surfactant, etc.) to a culture medium such as a Stainer-Scholte culture medium and culture the aerobic pathogenic nonacid-fast bacterium while stirring the culture medium. Thereby, the mass culture of the bacterium can be carried out in a culture tank. The amount of the bacterial cell is increase to promote the production of a useful culture product. |
