PURPOSE:To provide an image forming device which is applicable to documents having various length and excellent in a working efficiency by detecting the length of the document and switching a document circulating system and a document reciprocating system based on the information. CONSTITUTION:The device is constituted of a document carrying unit 2 which is operated in an optional mode out of a 1st carrying mode for carrying a document D along a circulating carrying path 4 including a document reading position P and a 2nd carrying mode for carrying the document D along a straight carrying path 5 including the reading position P, a leading end of a document detecting sensor 7 for detecting the leading and trailing ends of the original D near a document inserting port 3, and a control part for carrying the document D to the document reading position P at least once by operating the unit 2, also detecting the length of the document D in the carrying direction based on the information from the leading end sensor 7 and a pulse generator for a driving motor and selecting the carrying mode in accordance with the detected length of the document. |
