METHOD FOR FITTING POLARIZATION MAINTAINING OPTICAL FIBER

PURPOSE:To provide the method for fitting the polarization maintaining optical fiber which makes a precise connection without the need to specially machine the polarization maintaining optical fiber itself. CONSTITUTION:One end of the polarization maintaining optical fiber 7 is inserted into a ferrule 1 for optical fiber connection, reference light 15 which has a specific plane of polarization is made incident, an the other end is arranged opposite an analyzer 17. While the analyzer 17 is rotated around the optical axis 16 of projection from the polarization maintaining optical fiber 7, the maximum and minimum quantities of projection light from the analyzer 17 are recorded and crosstalk is measured from the difference. The crosstalk is measured while the end surface inserted into the ferrule 1 for optical fiber connection is rotated around the optical axis 16 of incidence at intervals of a proper angle, and the polarization maintaining optical fiber 7 is connected to the ferrule 1 for optical fiber connection at the position where a maximum crosstalk value is obtained.
