<p>PURPOSE:To provide an encoding method for improving visual picture quality and performing optimum information compression at the time of the quantization of picture signals. CONSTITUTION:Input picture signals are converted into the signals x(k, m) of a frequency area by a filter bank 1, a difference e(k, m) with a predicted value obtained from the picture signals of a previous frame is quantized by a quantization step size DELTA(k, m) in a quantizer 2 and encoded output is attained. The predicted value is weighted by a prediction coefficient a(k, m) by a multiplier 10. The prediction coefficient a(k, m) and the quantization step size DELTA(k, m) are decided corresponding to a filter bank coefficient (k, m) obtained from the filter bank 1 for indicating visual sensitivity and stored in a ROM 20 beforehand.</p> |
