Interface circuit, for a network switching centre terminal unit with asynchronous transfer mode, intended for making a digital link communicate with an external device the communications for which, through the interface circuit, optionally involve a maximum rate of cells which is higher than that allowed by the digital link in question. The interface circuit (9), connected to a control configuration (10) includes two matching subassemblies which are each allocated to one transmission direction, and a third common subassembly. Each matching subassembly includes a cell receiving unit (14 or 17), a cell extracting unit (15 or 18), and a cell sending unit (16 or 19).
