PURPOSE:To correct vertical flickering on a screen caused by a position devia tion at trace start in the case of low speed tape drive by varying the timing of a vertical synchronizing signal in a reproduced signal. CONSTITUTION:A replacement pulse generating circuit 33 generates a replacement pulse 34 for a prescribed period including the vertical synchronizing signal of a signal 19 from a pulse edge corresponding to a period from a switching edge of a SW pulse of a SW 30 pulse generating circuit 18 to the vertical synchronizing signal in the reproduction signal 19 from a video signal processing circuit l. The timing corresponding to a deviation between a recording track edge and a trace start position is added to a delay timing pulse selected depending on a pulse 29 of a head selection pulse generating circuit 28 at a delay timing DELTAH addition circuit 31. Then an additional vertical synchronizing signal generating circuit 22 generates an added vertical synchronizing signal 23 depending on the mode. A changeover switch 20 replaces the synchronizing signal portion of the signal 19 with the signal 23 based on the pulse 34.
