Sterilisation of liq. compsns. esp. foodstuff or cosmetics

Prodn. of a storage-stable liq. compsn. comprises: (a) adding sufficient alcohol to inactivate microorganisms in the compsn.; and (b) extracting the alcohol from the compsn. by dialysis against an alcohol-free aq. phase through a hydrophobic microporous membrane. Also claimed are (i) a food compsn.; (ii) a fruit juice; (iii) a cosmetic compsn., all obtainable by the above process; and (iv) an appts. for performing the above process having a dialysis unit comprising a chamber (7) with one or more compartments (11) having an inlet (12) for the alcohol-contg. compsn. and an outlet (19) for the alcohol-free compsn. the compartments being sepd. by a hydrophobic membrane in the form of tubes (18) through which the aq. phase is passed. .
